Debra Lafave was arrested for numerous sexual encounters with a teen in her classroom, her home and her SUV. Charged with 4 felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery and one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition.

Currently her sentence is 3 years house arrest, 7 years probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender who cannot work near children

Debra Lafave was raised in a small town near Tampa, Florida. LaFave has claimed that she was raped by a boyfriend when she was 13 years old. By age 15, she was drinking heavily and had developed an eating disorder. However, her life appeared to turn around after high school. After reaching age 18, she briefly worked as a model for magazines.

LaFave soon gave up modeling, however, and studied English at the University of South Florida, with the goal of becoming a teacher. She maintained a high B average in college, and after graduation she landed a job teaching English at a middle school in Temple Terrace, Florida. After her first year of teaching, she married Owen LaFave in 2003.

Maria Guzman Hernandez Pedo Middle School Teacher

Maria Guzman Hernandez , Florida, a 32-year-old sixth-grade teacher at Our Lady of Charity Catholic School in Hialeah, Fla. has been arrested for repeatedly having sex with a 15-year-old student. The victim’s mother reportedly approved of the relationship.

The teacher, who is estranged from her husband to investigators that she was “going through a lot in her life,” according to court documents.

Hernandez was booked into jail on charges of sexual battery on a child over whom she had custodial authority. She was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Jessica Bailey Wishnask Pedo Middle School Teacher

Jessica Bailey Wishnask of Leland was arrested and charged with indecent liberties with a minor.

Police say a patrol officer spotted a suspicious vehicle at Grace Street and North Fifth Avenue.  As he approached the car, the officer found Wishnask in “intimate contact” with a 15-year-old boy.

Wishnask currently lives in Greenville, North Carolina.  District Attorney Ben David said more charges are pending.

Abbie Swogger Pedo High School Teacher

Abbie Swogger was charged in connection with a party police said she threw at the Clarion Hotel in February 2008. In separate cases, she was also accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy in Natrona Heights, and stripping for teens and adult males in another home in Natrona Heights.

Abbie Swogger was charged with involuntary sexual deviate intercourse, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, furnishing liquor to minors, unlawful contact with minors and possession with intent to deliver.

She will serve her time at a women’s correctional facility in Pennsylvania and has been ordered to have no contact with her victims. Swogger will also have to register as a sex offender on her release from prison.

Mary Kay Letourneau Pedo Elementary Teacher

Mary Kay Letourneau is a former elementary school teacher who served seven and a half years in prison after she was convicted of raping her sixth-grade student, Fualaau, who is now the father of her two youngest children. She first received a probated sentence, which was revoked when she refused to stay away from the victim, who was still a teenager at the time.

The case gained attention because Letourneau was a wife, mother and teacher at the time of her first arrest and pregnant with Fualaau’s child. She also refused to follow the court order of not having any contact with the victim and voiced her undying love for the child.

After she was released from prison, Letourneau, 43, and Fualaau, 22, exchanged vows that they wrote themselves at the Columbia Winery in Woodinville, Washington, about 20 miles northeast of Seattle.

Interesting Note: Mary Kay Letourneau the daughter of John Schmitz, who ran for President of the United States in 1972 on the American Independent Party ticket.

Jill Lewis Pedo Computer Christian Teacher

Jill Lewis is a former speech, journalism and computer teacher at Living Stones Christian School in Alvin, Texas.

At age 26, Jill Lewis was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student. According to reports, the police received a tip that Lewis, a speech, journalism and computer teacher, had a sexual encounter with the student in December 2007. She has been charged with “improper relationship between an educator and a student.”

Nicole Long Pedo High School Teacher

Nicole Long is a former English teacher at Ayersville High School in Defiance, Ohio.

At age 29, Nicole Long was charged with having sex with a 17-year-old male student.

In January 2005, Long, who was seven months pregnant, pleaded guilty to sexual battery. In March 2005, she was sentenced to three months in prison.

Allenna Ward Pedo Middle School Teacher

Allenna Ward is a former teacher at Bell Street Middle School in Laurens County, South Carolina.

At age 24, Allenna Ward was charged with engaging in sexual acts with five boys between the age of 14 to 15 years old. Some of the boys were students at her school.

Currently, no verdict has been made on her case.

Janelle Batkins Pedo French Teacher

Janelle Batkins is a former French teacher at Roseville High School in Roseville, California.

At age 42, Janelle Batkins was charged with having sex with a 17-year-old male student.

Currently, she is service three years probation and 240 hours of community service.

Loni Folks Pedo Elementary Teacher

Loni Folks is a former fifth-grade teacher at W.L. Smith Elementary in Petal, Mississippi.

At age 24, Folks was charged with sexual battery of a 16-year-old male student.

Currently,  Loni Folks has been suspended and is serving 12 years in prison followed by five years probation.

Joy Blackstock Pedo High School Teacher

Joy Blackstock is a former chorus teacher at Early High School in Early, Texas.

At age 23, Blackstock was charged with having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male student while employed as a teacher at the school. It is important to note that Texas law prohibits sexual relationships between educators and students even if the sex is consensual and the student is of legal age.

Stephanie Ragusa Pedo Middle School Teacher

Stephanie Ragusa is a former teacher at Davidsen Middle School in Tampa, Florida. At age 28, Ragusa was arrested three times and charged with having sex with two 15-year-old students.

Currently, no verdict has been made yet on her case.

Nicole Andrea Barnhart Pedo High School Teacher

Nicole Andrea Barnhart is a former social studies teacher at Ponderosa High School in Denver, Colorado.

At age 35, Barnhart is charged with having sex with a 16-year-old male student.

Nicole Andrea Barnhart was sentenced for two years in prison and ten years probation.

Heather Shelton Pedo High School Teacher

Meet Heather Shelton, a 22-year-old teacher’s assistant at North Buncombe High School in North Carolina was charged with having sex with a 19-year-old student. In North Carolina, it is a felony for any teacher to have sex with a student regardless of the age of the student. What was more ridiculous was that the man wasn’t even her student and the two didn’t meet at the school.

Verdict: Not Guilty.

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful police have arrested two teachers from Bountiful Junior High School for having sex with one of their students.

Valynne Bowers, 39, was arrested Thursday evening, and officers took 46-year-old Linda Nef into custody Friday afternoon.

With the suspects being so much older than their victim some wonder what would prompt them to commit the crime.

University of Utah psychology professor Don Strassberg says that would be an easier question to answer if the teachers were men. With men, he says, it’s probably about the sex.

But it’s more complicated when you’re talking about women. For them, Strassberg says getting into a relationship like this is likely more about them: their needs, having control, getting attention.

“It’s appealing to any of us, attention. We all like to have attention. But imagine if it’s a person who, for whatever reason, isn’t getting a lot of attention in their lives and suddenly they’re getting it from this student,” Strassberg said.

Strassberg obviously doesn’t know what motivated these two teachers to get involved with the student, but he is just as surprised as everyone else that it happened the way it did.

Bowers was a popular teacher at Bountiful Junior High School. She became a math teacher at the school in 2006 and has been a teacher for a total of 13 years.

“She helped me a lot in my math classes ‘cause I hate math really bad, but she helped it so it was easier,” said Riley Fisher, a student at Bountiful Junior High.

Riley’s mom, Carol Fisher, told us, “She taught both of my children, both Tony and Riley, and she was an excellent teacher.”

But police say Bowers crossed the line with a 13-year old student. They say the two had an ongoing sexual relationship that began three months ago, shortly after the teen’s affair with another teacher at the same school ended.

“Two teachers at the same school with the same student is a surprise,” said Bountiful police Lt. Randy Pickett.

According to police, the teen told Bowers about his affair with the other teacher, Linda Nef. Bowers confronted Nef, who then went to police and confessed.

The Davis County School District says both women passed background checks. Police say Nef resigned earlier this week, but Bowers was still a teacher at the time of her arrest.

“When we look at the charges, first-degree felonies, I don’t think there’s any other reaction than shock,” said Chris Williams, community relations director for the Davis School District.

That’s how many parents reacted to the news. Some of them were so shocked they declined to do an interview. Students didn’t want to believe it either.

“I honestly don’t think she’s capable of something like that, but you never know. You’d expect that a teacher, especially, wouldn’t do something like that, especially if they have their own kids,” Riley said.

Bowers and Nef have both have been charged with rape and forcible sodomy.

Christy Martin Pedo Middle School Teacher

ST. PETERSBURG – Police arrested an Azalea Middle School teacher Saturday on charges of sending pornography to a student.

Christy Lynn Martin, 32, 3457 Lynn Lake Drive S., was charged with sending pornographic photos to a 14-year-old boy’s cell phone. The boy is an eighth-grade student at Azalea Middle School, but is not a student in any of Martin’s classes, St. Petersburg Police said.

She is charged with one count of transmitting pornographic images through an electric device and one count of transmitting material harmful to a minor.

The investigation began after the eighth-grader told an adult relative about his relationship with Martin. The relative told the boy’s mother, who in turn notified the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Detectives interviewed Martin who admitted sending the photographs, police said.

Martin has been a full-time employee at Azalea Middle School since the fall of 2008. Prior to that, she was a teacher’s assistant at the school.

Police said the exact details of their relationship are not yet clear

Emili Daniels Pedo Teacher

Yavapai County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a teacher at American Heritage Academy on charges of having sex with a student.

Deputies went to the school Thursday after the school principal reported catching the teacher and student in a compromising situation.

The principal, Leonard Miller, told sheriff’s detectives he tried to enter biology teacher Emili Kay Daniels’ classroom, but the door was locked. After unlocking it, the principal saw Daniels and a 17-year-old male student near the teacher’s desk. The student’s pants were undone, exposing his underwear. Both teacher and student initially denied any sexual activity.

He separated Daniels and the student, and they remained on campus for the arrival of sheriff’s investigators. During the subsequent investigation Thursday and Friday, the student admitted that he was having a relationship with Daniels that started this past October. The 17-year-old student said that in November, the relationship became sexual. He reported that at least three sexual encounters occurred in or around the classroom.

Detectives now also are reviewing text messages and e-mails related to the relationship.

Daniels is 34 years old and lives in Camp Verde.

After the investigation, deputies arrested Daniels and booked her into the Camp Verde Jail on charges of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
